Southwestern Michigan College’s Educational Talent Search (ETS) has joined forces with Beckwith Theatre’s summer youth program to present Edith Weiss’s “UnMurdered” this weekend.

Retiring Southwestern Michigan College Director of Bands Dr. Jon Korzun lost complete control of his Jazz Band rehearsal April 23. First, Andrew Fisher appeared singing “Fly Me to the Moon.”

David Baker's ‘Progeny’ opens July 5
Rising Phoenix Gallery, 2803 Franklin St., Michigan City, Ind., hosts a solo exhibit by St Joseph artist David Baker next month. The show opens with a free public reception Friday, July 5, 5-8 p.m., CDT, and continues through July 28.
SMC led off Dowagiac's summer concert series June 6
Dowagiac kicked off its summer concert series June 6 with hometown favorite the Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band. The 10-week series, hosted by the Dowagiac Downtown Development Authority, will be staged for the second year on the lawn of the James E. Snow Professional Building at Main and Front streets. Weekly concerts start at 7:30 p.m.
SMC creative in enlarging art gallery
Southwestern Michigan College debuted its remodeled and enlarged art gallery at a reception on Feb. 14 by showcasing alumna Jessika Clement’s series of eight outsized oil paintings, “The Generous Deceit of Elusive Darkness.” “We just completed a two-stage renovation,” Visual and Performing Arts Chairman Marc Dombrosky said. “It doesn’t just look different, it sounds different” with an interior wall moved to make the rear gallery as big a space as the front gallery in Room 108 of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus.
Dogwood salutes SMC arts support
Dogwood Fine Arts Festival, approaching its 25th anniversary in 2016, presented Southwestern Michigan College with a Commitment Award recognizing its support of the arts in Dowagiac.
