SMC Brass Band first to play Dowagiac's new concert venue
Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band June 7 christened Dowagiac’s new summer concert venue outside the James E. Snow Professional Building.
Director Dr. Jon Korzun led SMC through timeless toe-tappers such as Harry Alford’s march “A Step Ahead,” The Drifters’ “Under the Boardwalk,” Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” TV’s “Mission Impossible Theme,” Frank Sinatra’s “Luck Be a Lady” from Guys and Dolls and, of course, John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Summer concerts take place on the spacious lawn while Beckwith Park is rebuilt on the site of Beckwith Theatre, where Sousa appeared before live stage entertainment ended in 1928.
