SMC pins 23-member nursing class

Southwestern Michigan College recognized 23 new nursing graduates during its Dec. 20 pinning ceremony in the theatre of the Dale A. Lyons Building on the Dowagiac campus. These students received associate degrees in nursing (ADN) and joined the ranks of 3,051 SMC nursing graduates since 1968.

Graduates include: Dawn Carr, Edwardsburg; Krista Cerny, Watervliet; Mary Clayton, Benton Harbor; Dawn Cook, Stevensville; Angela Debartolo, Cassopolis; Heaven Draper, Niles; Paige Francis, Dowagiac; Elyce Hans, Edwardsburg; Joanne Hetrick-Roder, Kalamazoo; Deuanesay Inthivong, Goshen; Skyelar Jenkins, Granger; Jurnee Johnson, Cassopolis; Kristen Jones, Portage; Trevor Jones, Niles; Larissa Ludman, Dowagiac; Samantha Mulder, Vandalia; Abigail Newberry, Edwardsburg; Ashley Nieder, Kalamazoo; Jay Roder, Kalamazoo; Justine Rogge, Niles; Whitney Tacket, Berrien Springs; Elizabeth Williams, Niles; and Reyna Zamora, Watervliet.

Dean Rebecca Jellison of the School of Nursing and Health Services presented Hetrick-Roder with the Florence Nightingale Award, which embodies selflessness, compassion, thoughtfulness, team play, dependability, generosity and humility, as voted by her classmates.

“This person should have a huge heart and is always there to offer a hand in any situation,” Jellison said.
